He started his primary education at New Asafo primary school Kumasi and was transferred to Bebu when his father and mother were divorced, to live with his Aunt Madam Abena Nzema. His mother later on brought him to Kumasi to complete his elementary education at Danyame Local Authority middle school in 1970. David sold news papers to pay his fees at school because his Mother did not have and saw his Father once a year. David Manu became a shoe shine Boy at Kejetia lorry Park in Kumasi.

He saved some money out of his shoe shine work and entered into the jewelry business and made his first international travel to the Ivory Coast in 1973. David Manu changed the jewelry business and entered into the secondhand clothing business and sold his items on the market days in many parts of Ghana. His favorite places were Western Region, Brong Ahafo Region and the Northern Regions of Ghana. His Business grew and he opened two stores one in Kumasi and the other one in Takoradi.
